In Greece, as well as in Europe, the police tends to make use of new technologies.
Cameras, drones, facial recognition software and smart algorithms promise to play an important role in the fight against crime. The use of these technologies must respect the legislation in place and the jurisprudence, for the fundamental rights and freedoms to be protected.
Through the “Digital Ri.Se. (Digital Rights & Security)” project, Homo Digitalis aspires to:
- properly inform the public on the current situation and the potential challenges for human rights
- bring together the various stakeholders and reinforce cooperation between them, to ensure maximum protection for fundamental rights and freedoms
Project duration: June-October 2020
The project Digital Rights & Security (Digital Ri.Se.) is being implemented under the Active citizens fund in Greece by Homo Digitalis. The Active citizens fund in Greece is supported through a € 12m grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as part of the EEA Grants 2014 – 2021. The program aims to develop the sustainability and capacity of the civil society sector in Greece, and to strengthen its role in promoting and safeguarding democratic procedures, active citizenship and human rights. The Fund Operator for the Active citizens fund in Greece is Bodossaki Foundation in consortium with SolidarityNow.
