{"id":136020,"date":"2026-03-30T07:29:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T05:29:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/homodigitalis.gr\/posts\/136020\/"},"modified":"2026-04-03T07:29:41","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T05:29:41","slug":"22-civil-society-organizations-experts-raise-questions-about-openais-entry-into-greek-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/homodigitalis.gr\/en\/posts\/136020\/","title":{"rendered":"22 Civil Society Organizations &#038; Experts Raise Questions About OpenAI\u2019s Entry into Greek Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column column_width_use_pixel=&#8221;yes&#8221; gutter_size=&#8221;3&#8243; overlay_alpha=&#8221;50&#8243; shift_x=&#8221;0&#8243; shift_y=&#8221;0&#8243; shift_y_down=&#8221;0&#8243; z_index=&#8221;0&#8243; medium_width=&#8221;0&#8243; mobile_width=&#8221;0&#8243; uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;200244&#8243; column_width_pixel=&#8221;746&#8243;][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;160342&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"176\" data-end=\"500\">Today, Monday, March 30, through an Open Letter addressed to the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Ms. Sofia Zacharaki, 22 civil society organizations and experts, including Homo Digitalis, requested official information regarding OpenAI\u2019s programs \u201cAI for Greece\u201d and \u201cEducation for Countries\u201d in Greece.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"502\" data-end=\"773\">As we note, in September 2025 the Ministry announced the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with OpenAI \u05d1\u05de\u05e1\u05d2\u05e8\u05ea the \u201cAI for Greece\u201d program, without any prior open and transparent consultation with educators, students, parents, or relevant civil society organizations.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"775\" data-end=\"1067\">Moreover, the Ministry silently refused to respond to a formal request for access to relevant documents submitted by Homo Digitalis, despite the fact that it concerned critical issues such as the protection of students\u2019 and teachers\u2019 personal data in the use of ChatGPT Edu in public schools.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1069\" data-end=\"1493\">According to available information, the program is being piloted in 20 public secondary education schools and is unfolding in three stages. The first stage involves teacher training (October 2025 \u2013 November 2025), the second the use of AI tools by teachers themselves (December 2025 \u2013 February 2026), and finally the third the introduction of AI tools into the learning process and their use by students (March \u2013 June 2026).<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1862\">In recent weeks, OpenAI has been at the center of international attention due to its cooperation with the U.S. Department of Defense, raising questions about the potential uses of its technologies beyond U.S. borders, particularly given the lack of clear positioning on issues such as the collection of data from citizens of third countries for surveillance purposes.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1864\" data-end=\"2257\">At the same time, while discussions at the European Union level intensify around digital sovereignty in the era of artificial intelligence\u2014favoring transparent, auditable, and independent solutions\u2014Greece appears to be moving in the opposite direction. The choice of closed, commercial systems by technology companies such as OpenAI in sensitive sectors like education raises further concerns.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2259\" data-end=\"2661\">In our open letter, we outline a landscape with more questions than answers regarding the introduction of artificial intelligence into Greek schools.
