Homo Digitalis<\/strong> today submitted an Open Letter to the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, Kyriakos Mitsotakis<\/strong>, regarding the proposed Regulation on Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSA Regulation)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In our letter \u2014 which we have also shared with the Minister of Justice<\/strong> and the Minister for Citizen Protection<\/strong> \u2014 we call on the Hellenic Republic<\/strong> to reject the Danish Presidency\u2019s text<\/strong> in the upcoming vote at the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council<\/strong> on October 14, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The objective<\/strong> of the Regulation \u2014 to curb the distribution of child sexual abuse material \u2014 is right and necessary. However, the text proposed by the Danish Presidency<\/strong> would achieve the opposite effect, undermining security and trust in the digital space<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Specifically, 787 leading experts<\/strong> in communication security and encryption \u2014 including professors from top academic institutions in Greece \u2014 have emphasized that:<\/p>\n

    The technology for detecting child sexual abuse material is inaccurate and ineffective<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Mandatory scanning<\/strong> undermines end-to-end encryption<\/strong> and opens the door to mass surveillance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    The proposed technical measures can be easily bypassed by malicious users<\/strong> and threaten anonymity and freedom of information<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  4. \n

    Real child protection<\/strong> comes through education and support for victims<\/strong>, not through mass monitoring.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    On October 14<\/strong>, Greece\u2019s position<\/strong> must be guided by knowledge, technical expertise, and the fundamental principles and values<\/strong> upheld by the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights<\/strong> and the Constitution of Greece<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
